January 11, 2015 New Companion from Plano, TX

HERRO FAMIRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I focused on getting some pics out of Christmas and our last P-day excursion so we'll see how much time i have to write out an email. Those pics on the beach and of the fort were where we went last Monday it was super cool, its an island called qi jin. That fort used to protect gao xiong. Also i couldnt resist and went for a little run along the beach. It was GREAT. Couldn't actually go swimming but we made the most of it.

Sounds like you went crazy on the projects this week mommy! You gotta rest more ;)

Do you know what part of gao xiong the lady is from???? like if i knew the district..is her whole family members?

So good to hear about everything happening on that end. Oh btw i got the Ward's package please tell them thank you for me!!!! It was super sweet of them, they got me a bunch of missionary goodies.

So cant remember what all i said about my comp last week. He's from Plano Texas so we have defied the odds and now have a power Texas companionship. He's 22, worked and studied for a year at BYU-I in computer science before coming out. He's a really interesting guy and I think we're gonna do a lot of great stuff together.. He's a total bro.

Food we've been eating inside and ive been loving it. Ive recently been having chicken breast and sweet potatoes for dinner. dont worry i also get a taste of the taiwanese flavor every once in a while from members, eating out etc. We're hoping we can learn how to make some authentic chinese food either from members or finding a cook book. That way i can make some real Taiwanese food for you guys when i get back ;)

Scooters are crazy as ever. Nearly got blown off my bike a few times this week as usual lol

The humidity still exists. Havent had to stop wearing short sleeves yet

Investigators are kinda hard to find right now to be honest. I feel like a lot of areas with sisters are like this because i hate to be sexist but it seems like a large majority of the prepared souls in Taiwan are girls. Thats not to say there arent a lot of really awesome guys out there too its just that more often than not you see the wife and kids get baptized and the husband doesnt. We've met a lot of cool people but they're all kinda busy until after 過年.

Random stuff from this week...i discovered these things called nutrition biscuits that they sell in every 7 for 16 kuai that taste like a better version of animal crackers. Me and my companion experimented this week with adding flour and water together and trying different variations of tortillas, rolls etc. It was pretty much the best thing ever. I was surprised from those two ingredients how good of a tortilla we could make. Might use it with eggs for the mornings. I tried two fruits for the first time this week - wax apple and persimmon. Not sure if they exist in america or not.

John 20:26 was a good reminder this week. It says something along the lines of blessed are they that have not seen and yet believed (similar thought seen when alma visits the zoramites). One of the biggest testimony strengtheners to me has been seeing people change their lives on their missions. They may not see God, but the feelings that they have through Christ are real and can be felt by all!

Love and miss you guys a ton and hope you have an awesome week!

Love,
Elder Nelson
